SC (Female) Aged 38

 

I learned a lot through therapy sessions with Mike. Mainly things about myself which I would not have otherwise unearthed.

​

The main standout for me, was that I was able to understand and acknowledge my anxiety, rather than seeing it as something to fear. This meant that I was able to to reduce panic attacks that come with heightened anxiety.

I have come to understand that I will probably always be an anxious person, you can't "cure" it, but accepting it, and learning what my triggers are, along with breathing exercises have helped me to keep it at manageable levels. 

 

Perhaps I would have liked to delve more into the regressive techniques that we did, further into the therapy sessions, as I found that made me more at peace with certain experiences in my past. Reflecting on those was also a big help.

 

I would definitely recommend Therapy with Mike, as he helps create a safe, welcoming environment and made me feel at ease 100% of the time, even when talking about difficult experiences. He's also extremely professional and treats everything in strict confidence. Mike tailored therapy techniques to match my needs. I think you have to be prepared to put some work in yourself too, which I found helped me learn a lot about myself

I have gained a better understanding of behaviours which we develop due to our childhood and how these affect our relationships as we grow. I have also learnt breathing techniques to help with feelings of anxiety and am able to now notice and explore other feelings without being afraid of being alone. 

​

I don’t think there’s anything more or less I would have liked during my therapy. 

​

I would definitely recommend therapy with you. It’s a very calm and trusting environment in which I felt comfortable expressing my issues, feelings and emotions.

Q1: What, if anything, have you gained/learned over the duration of our work together. And were there any key/standout 

I feel I learned such a lot from our sessions. 

 

Firstly, talking about my grief. I felt validated in that, it’s ok to feel how I do, that others opinions do not matter. It was very healing pouring it all out to you, Knowing that you listened with empathy and no judgement.

Q2. Was there anything you would have liked more or less of over the duration of our work?

Anxiety around my study and placements which made me want to defer lessened after I spoke to you and my tutor. Your calmness is amazing. The therapy room was filled with it. I was immediately relaxed when I met you for our first session.

 

I enjoyed the work we did around Transactional Analysis and would like to delve into that some more in the future. 

 

Among the serious stuff and angst I had, there was also humour along the way, which was great. 

Q3: Would you recommend therapy with me, and if so, why?

I would certainly recommend you to anybody and already have. If fact I will be back if/when I need any more help from counselling.

 I learned to accept myself more which has been invaluable.

I found everything just right.

 Yes I would because I left every session with new ways to think about things and I learned skills which I have kept and passed on to others. I always felt listened to and understood.

I would thoroughly recommend Mike for therapy. He has helped me enormously over the past 8 months and taught me ways to handle myself in difficult situations. 

I felt respected and listened to in a safe and comfortable surrounding. 

Mike helped me see things so much clearer and I feel so much stronger and able to cope with whatever life throws at me.

Q1: Having a space to begin to catch my breath, focus on me and become slightly more accepting of my life situation was really useful. The work started at a point of exhaustion and crisis and has moved to a calmer, healthier place with more focus on my own well-being. 

​

Q2: I think there was a tension sometimes with where I wanted to go and what Mike picked up on. Not surprising as there was a lot to focus on. Having a whole 50 minutes that was about me was invaluable. 

​

Q3: Mike brings his authentic self to the counselling room, he really actively listens and focusses on you. His approach is based in compassion, realism and empathy. I felt seen

Q1.The most therapeutic aspect was learning that a characteristic, my sense of unworthiness, wasn't just an innate trait I had to live with. I discovered it wasn't fixed and could be changed because it was a learned behaviour that stemmed from emotionally unavailable parenting. The secure relationship provided by Mike allowed me to acquire what is called earned security and I now have much healthier patterns of relating to others.

 

Q2.It would have helped me to have a little bit more silence at times because I process thoughts and emotions very slowly and sometimes didn't get the opportunity to go deep into myself. However Mike was becoming attuned to this as the therapy progressed.

 

Q3. I would absolutely recommend Mike and I would have loved to have been in a position to continue working with him. The incorporation of the neuroscience behind my experiences really spoke to my own interests and beliefs and made difficult emotions much less scary. His vast experience seeps through without being overbearing and you really feel like he's willing to be as vulnerable with you as you are with him. I have felt a huge positive shift in my way of relating to the world that will stay with me forever, and predict my life is going to be much more relaxed, brave and productive as a result.
